Painted Jade
Painted Jade is the name of a painting created by the author, which is the result of an insight generated in the mid-nineties that came about as the result of the inherent correspondences that are to be found between the Chinese New Year Cycle, and the Aztec New Year Cycle, which both initiate their years typically in the time of February. Initially, it could be seen by the author that within a few occasions that these two New Year dates were only off by a day. This was the result of starting the Aztec Year one day earlier with Aztec Year Bearer opening the year, which was then later changed by the author in order to put the Year Bearer Sign as to be closing the year - and as well as the 20-day months within it - just as was the historical practice before the Spanish Conquest. Therefore, this then makes the New Year Dates of the Chinese, and the Aztec Calendars, to often fall within two days of one another, which is an excusable detail owing to many factors. In reality, the two counts are attributable to the same agriculture cycle, which begins the year in February. This kind of chronological situation was again to be the case for the year of 2010, with the opening of the Year of the Tiger on February 14th, 2010 that was then followed by the opening of 11-Rabbit on February 16th, 2010 (with the day 10-Water) for the Mexica-Azteca Calendar. In the earlier case, with the Aztec Year Bearer of the Rabbit Sign as opening the year, the year of 11-Rabbit could have opened instead with the day sign 9-Rabbit, and would have been within one day of the Chinese New Year for 2010.
The goal of the Painted Jade project is to rejuvenate the former understanding of the Aztec New Year Cycle through the four year bearer archetypes, which were called the “Xiuhtlapoualli,” symbolized by the Reed, the Turkey (Flint), the House, and the Rabbit. This eventually, would of course mean including every aspect of those year time archetypes, including the corresponding 13-numbers that tallied the passage of those year bearers, within a 52-year cycle. This of course will require a great deal of work, and to help the process along, the powerful inherent meaning of the 12-Chinese New Year Archetypes are to be consulted. There should be no querulous opposition to this procedure, once the Corrected Count theory is understood for all of its practicality, and astrological accuracy, which this author can to this very day account for with the overwhelming experiences that are to be witnessed, and that would also pertain to the perceived correlations found within this form of time keeping, and the activities taking place throughout the social environment.
For that matter as well, because the Chinese New year Cycle has also been given over to a 12-Fold Western Zodialogical Correlation, then as well the Aztec 52-year cycle should also absorb these correlations and in fact improve on the situation of the 4-Xiuhtlapoualli, as being marked by the 3-western zodiac modalities of the Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable, modes. This elemental comparison is depicted within the painting by the 3-arrows that mark the modes of the 20-day signs upon the Aztec Sunstone. Naturally, a theoretical stance has been elected for this comparison of iconographic symbolisms involving the arrows.
In mentioning the arrows, we are also then brought around to corroborate the nature of the 4-directions with regards to the nature of the 4-Xiuhtlapoualli, and why they are in the places that they are in as featured within the painting. There is a great deal of compounded contrary references to be found with regards to the nature of the directions within all of the ancient astrology’s from yesteryear; and usually with hardly any relevant correlations worth noting. However, in the case of the Chinese to Aztec, Direction-to-Color Symbolisms, there is indeed to be found some degree of relevant correlations that are worth noting:
Chinese: East (Green), South (Red), West (White), North (Black) Center (Yellow).
Aztec: East (Red), South (Blue), West (White), North (Black) Center - (variably Green or Yellow).

In as much as the painting was designed as a compass, it is in reality to be laid flat, and thus the zodialogical Aries is located over to the right, instead of the usual left handed orientation of the astronomical premise for the sign, which is found within most astrological charts. In correspondence with the sign of Aries is found the Chinese Dragon within the second ring from the center, a sign usually given the color of Green to indicate its spring-time orientation that correlates it with Aries. However, on this painting the 3-modalities of the zodiac are further conveyed thru the corresponding Chinese Year Signs. In this case the “Cardinal Signs,” were given the color of the center, being Yellow, and representing the authority of the Sun, and the two planets of Jupiter and Saturn. This can be easily be perceived as the yellow cross that surmounts the foundational bases of the painting.
One should be asking at this point then: Why aren’t the Direction-to-Color correspondences for the Aztec Year Bearers in their exact proper places? For instance: Why isn’t the “Eastern Red Reed,” occupying the direct eastern arm of the painting, where the Dragon is, which is crowned by the Black Turkey of the North? The answer for the author’s solution to the frameworks involved is that the “Eastern Red Reed,” (corresponding to the Year of the Cat, and the zodialogical Pisces) is not actually a Cardinal Sign, but only in Chinese tradition is it designated to occupy a Cardinal Direction. According to true astrological analysis, the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces, are surmounted upon the Cardinal Directions of the South, West, North, and East, respectively; as is to be found within the traditional alignments of Chinese Astronomical Compasses. This is no doubt due to the fact that currently these constellations (or stellar orientations) are to be found occupying the nodal points of the equinoxes and the solstices within the current state of the precession of the equinoxes. Such an example can be seen below, which puts the symbol for the Horse squarly at the bottom within the Cardinal Red Southern Direction of the Mandela.

When compared with respect to the Chinese Mandela, the Painted Jade Mandela would then seem to be inclined to the right by about 30-degrees, with respect to the actual horizontal directions. Perhaps in a more traditional sense, the author’s resolution to this framework would have been to follow thru to the same artistic conclusion with the placement of the “Blue Rabbit of the South,” to be sitting at the foundational bottom of the painting. The inherent discrepancy is easily accounted for by the fact that the Painted Jade Mandela is two-fold, meaning that it can be hung vertically, or laid flat horizontally.
If laid horizontally, a twist of the wrist will align the directions thusly, and the Direction-to-Color correlations for the more ‘traditional alignments’ will become more apparent and solidified within their places. However, for in doing that one compensates for the true ‘astrological content’ of the directional alignments that puts the Cardinal Signs of the zodiac, in their Cardinal Directions. The Chinese are well aware of the ‘Cardinal Astrological Content’ of the four New Year Signs of the Dragon, Goat, Dog, and the Ox, and in fact the Yellow colors for these signs as being itemized in the painting were garnered from a book on Chinese astrology. Therefore, the Cardinal Chinese Year Signs along with the corresponding 12-signs of the zodiac then become the official bearers of their respective directions, (marked by Yellow) with this kind of alignment.
This notion also comes thru within the written literature on the subject of Chinese Astrology, and as well, anyone with any astrological insight can see this Cardinal aspect within these individuals who are born within one of these four Cardinal Chinese New Year Signs. This then calls forth definitions for the 12-Chinese New Year Signs in general. But however of course, in th Chinese it is never really called "Cardinal" even though such recognition of Modality should come about in Chinese Astrology since it has recently elected to correlate their 12-signs to the western signs of the 12-fold zodiac. For that matter, the "Cardinal" signs on Chinese Mandala would then go to occupy the place of the "Fixed Signs" which in turn have replaced the area of the "Mutable Signs." This all can be accounted for thru the astronomical shift of the precession of the equinoxes, and how all of this was recorded thru art forms within these Chinese Mandela's.
Apparently, therefore it can seem to work out for the case of the Chinese Signs here, but what about the Aztec Direction-to-Color alignments? The bases of the correspondences found between the 4-Aztec Xiuhtlapoualli, and the 12-Chinese Signs are relevant strictly to the time based format for the passage of those two year-counts as a calendrical correlation between the two systems, (as they pertain to the Corrected Count of Mesoamerica) derived from the August 13th 1521 C.E. (Julian) surrender date of Cuauhtémoc. Therefore, all other astrological correspondences are to follow there afterwards. The year 1521 CE was the year of the Chinese Serpent, and was the year 3-House on the Aztec Year Calendar.

Four Hundred and Sixty Eight-years later in the year of 1989 or, (12 x 39) the year once again was the Chinese Year of the Serpent, and as well it was the Aztec Year of “Yei Calli,” or 3-House. The consecutive annual order of the years of the Aztec Count is acknowledged by scholars, but the system of the Corrected Count is not. This shows that it is not desired to be understood. On a more confusing note of astronomy however, the planet Jupiter, due to its 995-year cycle was to be found in the opposite celestial area of Sidereal Scorpio in the year of 1521 CE, rather than in the assigned correspondence of Taurus, where as now in our modern times Jupiter will be temporarily found within the area of “Sidereal Taurus,” during the times of the Years of the Chinese Serpent. Could the Jupiter cycle have been accounted for in the Mesoamerican Calendar, by an 83-year Correction Cycle with regards to the subtraction of a 20-day period at that time? Some scholars have theorized this (Edmunson. 1988:)
In any case, the astrological disposition of the Aztec Year Bearers, like the Chinese Years, in the case of this Painted Jade Mandela is subjected to the authority of the Western Babylonian Zodialogical Correspondences and their modalities, and furthermore as those 12-zodiac signs would also pertain to the 4-directions, when the Mandala is hung vertically, (which also creates a pyramid with regards to the Year Bearers of the three House symbols that form a triangle). This is to say that the 4-Aztec Year Bearers, which correspond to the 4-Chinese Year Signs, within the Yellow Cardinal Directions are to be understood as Cardinal in their behaviors – in short meaning: “Self-initiating, and Self-sustaining.” This means that the 4-Aztec Year Bearers that occupy the stations to the right of the 4-Yellow Cardinal Signs, are actually understood to be Mutable, just like their Chinese counterparts – even though traditionally they occupy the Cardinal Directions just like stellar constellations, which are temporarily sitting atop the solstices and the equinoxes of the current astronomical age.
For that matter, it is confidently stated and well understood by the author that in a more Traditional Aztec Rendition of the Painted Jade Mandela, there would have been an account of the 4-Cardinal Directions by putting the “Blue Rabbit of the South,” squarely at the bottom of the of the painting to account for the south. This in turn, would account for the actual stellar constellation symbol of the zodialogical Gemini, as providing the current home of the sun during the summer solstice of June 21st of any given year of the now current astronomical era. However, in reality this is really the Tropical Time Placement of the zodialogical Cancer, as is dictated by the change of the seasons.
So for that matter, in order to account for the Direction-to-Color displacement for the Aztec Year Bearers allocated to the right, it is now to be ‘imagined’ that the daily progression of the sun to the left, instills the “Red Reed of the East,” 90-degrees towards the South, as is to be found with the Chinese and zodialogical Cardinal combinations of the Chinese Goat symbol along with the Tropical Zodialogical sign of Cancer. The “Red Reed of the East,” now found in the new home of the South is then designated with the Nahuatl term, Yacapantli,” meaning, ‘first born’ and to ‘come before’. Therefore, the designations of the Aztec Year bearers along with all other astrological correspondences upon the Painted Jade Mandela are to be understood as tropical, as opposed to the more traditional sidereal approach for a mandala script.

Now that the directions have been accounted for, the prospect of revealing the ascribed nature of the arrows that point to those directions becomes paramount for the case of the Mandela. Naturally, as can be seen the arrows are derived from the Aztec Sunstone, which are used to crown the 20-day signs of the Aztec Cemilhuitlapohualli. This gives an easy designation of four of these 20-day signs (the year bearers) as being crowned with Tonatiuh’s Year Crown, formally belonging to rain god Tlaloc in the ancient world. The other 16-tonalli signs are crowned by the other two arrow symbols, and covering therefore 8-tonalli signs each.
Just as in the tradition of western astrology, it is a somewhat evident fact that Mesoamerica had also observed the three different qualities found within astrological sign configurations that have come to be known as the ‘modes’. These are currently known as the Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable, modes, and which in actually both reflect, and symbolize, the three variations of the yearly cycle of the seasons, and also the time of day as well.
As we have seen, the Cardinal mode or Yacapantli, basically meaning ‘to come before’ initiates the four seasons with the astrological signs of Aries (spring), Cancer (summer), Libra (autumn), Capricorn (winter). This is then followed by the 'fixed mode' which upholds the previous initiation of energies that opened a particular season, and highlights the essential peak creativity of that particular season by stabilizing it. Thus the term ‘Fixed’, which are executed by the signs of: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and, Aquarius.
After that period of 30 days passes, then finally sets in the Mutable mode, which apparently by design destabilizes the previous mode of fixation with a more neutral format of expression; allowing for the change that is underway with the next oncoming Cardinal sign period, or seasonal initiation. This is executed by the signs of: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
3
Naturally, these changes in season and zodialogical sign are really only the result of the earths tilt, with respect to its yearly and/or monthly angular position to the sun. Again the mystical nature of the number 3 is apparent here just as the doctrines had outlined its mystery in so many other ways throughout the ancient world. In the case of Mesoamerica, the only real hard evidence we have of such a threefold modality system is to be found upon the Aztec Sunstone itself, which of course is a good place to start anyway, considering the directional features of the astrological Aztec Sunstone Mandela, and how this might relate to the order of hours and the seasons throughout the year. However, because there is a linking up of various cultural traditions here, it would do no good to suggest that this composition of mine is still but only a speculation, which in itself is subject to a great many evolving interpretations.
The first major arrow, (1.) which in fact contributes a great deal of fame to the Sunstone, should no doubt be the “Cardinal Arrow,” as it points towards the cardinal directions of East, North, West, and South. These 4 arrows dually help to crown eight of the 20 signs.
Secondly, (2.) there are the ‘sun crown’ arrows that mark the four year bearers of the Reed, Flint, House, and Rabbit. This arrow’s position on the Sunstone marks the four middle-directions of the earths compass, as the sunstone lays flat. It was decided that this arrow should denote the Fixed modality; since it is these 4 arrows, which in fact basically point to the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th, ‘fixed directional houses’ of western astrology, during those select times of the spring and autumnal equinoxes.
Finally, (3.) there are the “chalchihuitl’s,” which I believe are symbolic of the sun gods jade neck garment, and as well as an arrow tassel, and which in turn may be symbolic of rain clouds, and the colorful translucently of the suns light as it peers through the clouds and the horizons. In any case, these chalchihuitl’s crown eight of the 20-day signs and are assigned to the Mutable mode.
Again, taking for granted that this is a speculative venture, I have also sought to name these three Mesoamerican modalities with Nahuatl terms. In an effort to keep it simple and to the point, which follows native tradition anyway, I have named the first Cardinal Modality as: “Yacapantli,” meaning, ‘first born’ and by extension ‘to go before’. Secondly, I gave the Fixed Modality the name: “Napantla,” meaning ‘middle’. It might be noted that the Nahuatl term for 3:00 pm midday is in fact “Napantla Tonatiuh,” and so we might see where the terminology is fitting for both an hourly and seasonal indication as well. Finally, sticking to the simple unfoldment of the threefold cycle, I gave the last place of the Mutable cycle the name: “Zatapanyahui,” which means ‘to come afterwards’, and which carries along with it a secondary meaning of ‘the younger’.
In terms of the historic artwork I feel that the comparisons I have made between the modalities and the three arrows are acceptable, although of course there are bound to be variations of interpretation. In fact, so much so that I feel we should regard these symbols as extremely interchangeable at this point, in order to keep them pertinent to astrological analysis. Furthermore, looseness in interpretation helps to guarantee further creativity, which in turn can further the argument for Mesoamerican astrology, and ultimately lead to its needed refinements.
Also, with regards to the meaning of the various directions is the meaning of the 5-fold jade quincunx symbol itself, which is found within most all Mesoamerican civilizations since the beginning. Within the Painted Jade videos, this author had made a statement with regards to precise meaning of the 5-fold metaphorical quincunx symbol, which may have in itself sounded rather to be a specious conclusion brought about through variably only simplistic observations. The suggestive conclusion that was made is offered once again here for further examination:
The purpose of the 5 fold quincunx symbols, which are found throughout Mesoamerican art, and have been applied to my painting, have an astronomic orientation, and are meant to denote the return of the sun to a point of the zodiac where the rains are initiated; principally this meant the summer solstice. The symbol also includes the 5th central direction (or the North Star) as the principal of rotation as well. Thus, we have the use of this 5-fold digit numeric symbol, as the bases of the jade glyph, which is meant to imply yearly seasonal renewal, within the dynamic environments of the rain and water gods.
In the last paragraph, it is suggested that the 5-fold jade quincunx symbol is an astronomic symbol that pertains specifically to the 4-directions and the central 5th, as the principal of rotation. This would imply that the 4-outside quarters of the symbol would correspond to the 4-specific directions of astronomic space. In turn, the stellar implication is to be with the solstices and the equinoxes, and the stars that reside there in those astronomic quarters, within the most recent times of astronomic history.
When the statements were initially made, it was known and understood by this author that the essential bases of the 5-fold quincunx symbol is best likely to be found within carvings of the earth / rain god or “Tlaloc-Tlaltecuhtli,” as they are seen under a spiral Quetzalcoatl statue, and the Coatlique statue. In order to assure the audience that indeed these quincunx symbols are indeed stellar, it must first be accepted that the sexually dispositioned (spread legged) Tlaloc-Tlaltecuhtli symbol is a constellation, which has its counterpart in a Tibetan deity who holds the zodiac within its grasp all the while as it seems to bite down on the ecliptic. This deity is called the Bhavacakra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhavacakra) and although it may not have been specifically itemized as a constellation, it is nonetheless just that. In fact, the specifics of the constellation are such that the head of this deity is positioned at the pinnacle of Virgo, while the two legs flange outwards towards the Galactic Center (Sagittarius) and the star Sirius (Gemini). Therefore, the bottom of the sacred diagram corresponds to the ‘constellation area’ of Pisces.

The realization of this stellar being was first perceived around the year of 2001, specifically by this author, as a full sky constellation. However, the constellation was not initially understood as the Bhavacakra, but rather within its Aztec formulation as the goddess Tlazolteotl, as she is seen to be giving birth to another stellar being. For that matter, the formulation of this stellar design was perceived and recognized as being sexual in it s nature, and none of the similar Aztec designs, which include this pose can ever be thoroughly understood without first understanding the immensity of this full sky constellation that covers the full 360-degrees of the heavens.
As providing a territory for the full 360-degrees of the heavens, it then also comes to represent the full 360-degress of the earthly horizon, and therefore marks the 4-directions of space. In the case of the Aztec sculptures, these deities were specifically carved face-ward down in order to sit upon the earth’s surface. This in turn mirrors the daily transit of the constellation through the underworld, and the 4-directions of astronomical space.
The most revealing element of the symbol is in actuality the center, which for all redundant simplicity does in fact represent the North Central Star of rotation. This idea is reinforced with the Bhavacakra holding the zodiac, with the center near to its chest, within the direction of the North Star. With the zodiac being replaced by the 5-fold quincunx symbol for jade in the Aztec version of the constellation, there is therefore the reinforced notion that this Tlaloc-Tlaltecuhtli Jade Symbol is in fact symbolic of the motion for the tropical year of the seasons, and the cycles of rain that fall within them to fertilize the earth. For that matter, the meaning of the 5-fold quincunx symbol is in fact spelled out concretely within these statues, which point towards the 4-main sources of light at the 4-directions of the astronomical cosmos: The Star Sirius, the Galactic Center, Coma Bernice’s, and finally the Andromeda Galaxy, which indeed may in fact lead us towards the center.
The final result of earliest Mandela diagram made back in 1997 was to put an Aztec Royalty Sun Symbol i.e. that being, ‘the constellation of Leo’, at the center of the piece that was to result in the realization that this constellation is in fact the bases of the planetary Jupiter glyph. Many years later, when creating the narration for the Painted Jade videos, it then on October 20th, of 2009 had dawned on the author that the constellation of Leo also serves as the bases for both the planetary Jupiter glyph, and as well as the planetary Saturn glyph. Then later on the date of September 3rd 2010, it was to be realized that the Arabic numerals of both the number 2, and the number 4, are to also have been derived from the constellation of Leo, in order to represent the “24-Hour period of the Sun Cycle for one day.” In the mind of the ancient scribe, who had long ago sought to outline the bases of the Arabic numbers, the constellation of Leo would have served best in representing this 24-hour period, since this was traditionally where in the heavens that the sun was to be found during the summer solstice. The number 2 was derived from the frontal mane of the Lion Constellation, while the number 4 was derived from the whole of the star group, which is why the planetary Jupiter Glyph also resembles a number 4. With the Saturn glyph realization soon came the realization of the number 5-symbolizim as well. It then also becomes somewhat obvious that the general zodialogical symbol for Leo is in fact derived from this same stellar constellation as well, as can be seen in the diagram above when it is compared to the Saturn glyph.
YACAPANTLI CHALCHIUHTOTOLIN
The War Turkey That Comes Before
“The Cardinal War Turkey of Conquest”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Dragon and the zodialogical Aries, “The War Turkey that comes before,” or Yacapantli Chalchiuhtotolin is a symbol of leadership in a mass community challenge of warfare, which usually in our times, tends to take on the form of management within industrialized economic ventures.
Even in the case when this “War Turkey of Conquest” or “The War Captain” is not in charge, it is nonetheless plodding and planning for the day when it is to arise. With the use of its commanding voice, and the commands that emanate from its beak, a song is heard that heralds a new tomorrow with a promise to fulfill the demand for leadership that can be contemptuous to all those that surround him.
For whatever reasons, the mystery and mystique of the Conquest Turkey personality is one of domination and eventual control of most any situation he might find himself in, whether it is in a discussion of politics or philosophy, or in a pioneering business enterprise where great feats of purpose and skill are to be demonstrated while new foundations are being implemented for any financial triumphs that are to be had. The lifecycles for most of the individuals born under this years archetype puts them at a moment where they feel almost obligated towards the role of leadership, and following that notion they continue to become all the more passionate about the prospect of reaching the ultimate goal of hegemony over the prevailing organization, where their interests had initially guided them towards.
Despite this natural inclination towards taking the hand of control in a given situation, the human Conquest Turkey is nonetheless ‘human’, and is known for various demonstrations of overt efforts to take over, with a kind of opportune domination that indeed marks him as ‘ambitious’, if not at times to a fault. This aspect can make him sometimes appear arrogant in his conclusions and opinions of others, and their personal contributions to a situation, simply because his mind is often only focused on winning. Unfortunately, in many cases this arrogance is also accompanied by a rather sharp tongue,
(corresponding to the Flint symbol), which has been known to exasperate others with their extraordinary jaw dropping statements, and condescending remarks that are often only heard once in a lifetime.
5
Moreover, because he is skillful at getting his ideas across, he may nonetheless be less inclined to be the listener in the situation, although this may just be a part of the over all effort to get his strong ideas and opinions heard over and above what he considers to be a challenging mental environment in the first place. “All is fair in love and war,” might be his motto, and for that matter, some of his spontaneous actions can be just as abrasive as his tongue tipped words go from time to time, when the situation gets a little haywire.
The projects he foresees are of a grand scale, and may indeed demand the cooperation of a great many people (or warriors), whom of which he sees no problem in telling what to do. Somehow, he was born for this moment to acquire the position of the commanding spotlight, and will take no shame in stealing it from another if necessary. He will demand nothing less than unfailing loyalty from his fellow peers, and will return the favor with unbending loyalty towards the situation as well, but only as long as it is constructive. Usually, the Conquest Turkey’s incentive is to build a hierarchy in order to make things work on a mass level of society, where stratified clan organizations can prove to hold sway over dictating the rules of outcome. For that matter, loyalty is one of the key aspects of this year’s archetype. The Conquest Turkey specifically knows who his true friends and supporters are, and will be intolerant of any gossip that goes against the grain of his camp or circle. The concept of ‘best friends’ continues to dominate the scene well into the later ages of adulthood, and for that matter he observes the rules of good and decent comradeship; just as surly as he would hope others would do as well.
The Conquest Turkey elects itself as a prodigious example of excited velocity that purges forth into the mêlée of the battle field, guarded to bring forth and apprehend the needed resources designed to bring about the foundations that are sought in the next following phase of Napantla Calli, The Fixed House of Finances. For this reason he perceives himself as an architect towards the establishment of a new and stabilized community, when at which point if successful, will remain as the tour de force in the continual expansion process of empire building.
This is the military might behind all cultural religious endeavors, for which in recognizing the inevitable competition from all sides of the table, does not fail in the task of wedding ceremony with the art of battle, for the congregation and preservation of the cultural legacies that are to be seen throughout the world.
NAPANTLA CALLI
The Temple House of the Middle
“The Fixed House of Finances”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Serpent and the zodialogical Taurus, the Fixed House or, Napantla Calli draws from the previous stratified clan organizations to create a financial hierarchy that can consolidate matters and use them for further negotiations. In a sense, this represents the history and creation of ‘banks’ as we know them. Like the impenetrateable walls of an ancient temple complex, the boundaries of the Fixed House encapsulate a shadowy interior of secret dealings, and negotiations that can transform or destroy the infrastructure of the world community and economy.
In the lives of the people born under this year sign, the ability to control financial decisions can be an all encompassing goal that consumes the very bases of their value systems and in certain lowly cases can lead to personal thievery and deceit. The shadowy element of the temple house can therefore be reinforced with this sign position.
When not focused on finances, the Fixed House is a store house of accumulated knowledge that is as varied as it is indispensable. The purpose of accumulating the information is based on practicality and usefulness, and should lead to some form of academic recognition if indeed the ‘contents are true’. This is the elite aspect of the Fixed House, which sees its personal procedures as the tried and true, and a cut above the rest; a fact which is demonstrated in the usefulness of the product brought about by a structured accumulation of information over time. This is the theory of temple building brought about over time, proven by the longetivity of solid structures as they remain over the centuries.
Principally, the Financial House is aloof in attitude, presenting an image and approach that has a predilection and gauge for certain experiences; those which are tried and true and directed towards the outcome of the desired result. “Materialistic,” might define this Financial House’s main objective, and in order to attain that objective, conventional wisdom and knowledge are exhibited at the expense of all others. The foundation below is meant for the feet to remain grounded.
6
In matters of business they can indeed be shrewd, knowing to make deals only when the time is right and then striking like lightning, they pull away from the table as the winners of a one time only deal. For that matter, any undertaking with them should be done with a degree of caution, as many darkened temples can be a treacherous sort that would not think twice about swindling others to save its own foundations, or for improving its own financial position. Much of this House signs behavior may be derived from a great fear of failure in the realm of finances, which is the only method that could ever guarantee the extravagant lifestyles that appear so attractive to him. Secrecy is as much a necessity as breathing within the pragmatic foundations of the Financial House.
When finally the security that is sought has been brought about, there then is the time and foundation to expand personally through creative enterprises that guarantee further stability. This can then also garner the ability towards procreation, reinsuring the survival of personal principals, and religious convictions through the endeavor of genetic offspring. The characteristics of the genetic files of the DNA are held within the cells of this temple house, where they remain guarded by the principals of motherhood, and the fecundity of the earth’s entire genetic heritage.
The principals of youth and early education are found here in this house, along with some of the experiences that guarantee the growth and emergence of the personality closer towards the target of desirable personal destinations, which have in recent times come to be understood in the form of their most materialistic manifestations.
One’s home happens to be in actuality, the set of personal goals that allow for the continual process of character building, which further guarantees an egotistical contemplation of desire. Here in this house, obsessive dreams are engendered, which then contribute to an inner build up of personal ambition, which serve to satisfy the social cravings generated from the community togetherness, which then in turn seeks fulfillment through ongoing future appointments.
In short the warmth and protection of the house creates a desire for total social fulfillment. It is at this point that the ‘collective community temple’ guarantees the sharing of perspectives of the mass ego of the tribe, or the nation as a whole through the premise of social gatherings that secure the similarities in perpetual states of coming together to fulfill dreams.
ZATAPANYAHUI TOCHTLI
The Rabbit That Goes Afterwards
“The Mutable Rabbit of Ingenuity”
As the corresponding year to the Chinese Horse, and the zodialogical Gemini, The Mutable Rabbit or, Zatapanyahui Tochtli draws from the previous foundational resources of the Fixed House to invent new methods of expression towards communicating with the greater community at large. These can, and may take the form of technological achievements, but more often than not they are in the form of unique artistic expressions that expand the mind further afield towards greater idealistic pastures, and which then build upon subjective personal value systems and inner perception. The ingenuity of this Rabbit year is specifically its personal idealism.
As the Rabbit that specifically points towards the southern direction of the compass, and corresponding to the season of summer, it is undoubtedly the ‘emotional rabbit’ of release and mental liberation, and therefore it also provokes the idea of emotional momentum, which these people prefer to keep on a very high and happy note. The archetype of the Ingenuity Rabbit demonstrates the ability to quicken mental momentum and physical endurance in the wake of emotional stimulation and fervor. Above all, the high energy of this Rabbit archetype needs open outlets for its correct expression, lest we just, as in the case of the actual Rabbit animal, witness digressive bouts of expression at being unnecessarily detained against its will.
With such a high pitch of emotional fervor that these people project, it is no wonder that often others wonder what is going to happen next in this unpredictable rabbit’s presence, since such exuberance for personal involvement is not always the usual feet. Though sensing the capriciousness of the moment themselves, many of them can just as well become a conduit for peace and calm. They have no problem cooperating when the social movement is perceived as being fair and negotiable for all, which is measured specifically by how they feel.
7
For that matter, people born within this year need a great deal of time and freedom to express their ideals and attain their goals; as their objective usually supersedes the norm when finally completed. Like the preceding sign of the Financial House, this Rabbit is also desirable of the finer things in life, enjoying a fine wardrobe of unusual and stylish clothes that are assured to make this Rabbit standout among the crowd. Though materialistic to a degree, the energies of this Rabbit are more geared towards expressing their personal image in an outgoing and artistic sense.
Because of this artistic inclination, they are usually high spirited in nature, preferring to keep the emotional momentum up around them and setting the stage for a positive spotlight performance. Of course, this does not mean that a ‘stage’ or a ‘spotlight’ is always available for them, and finding these essential tools can be a source of aggravation for them.
If the environmental resources of this Rabbit become too stagnated, there may come a time when this Rabbit’s habitat can appear congested to him, creating the likelihood that the Ingenuity Rabbit may end up ‘bucking the system’ if it cannot get its own way. For that matter, it is known, and has been said, that if this Mutable Rabbit does not agree with his employers that he simply will ignore the orders of his boss, and suiting his own needs will do what he feels is right to amend the situation. While at times appearing inconsiderate to others, with this kind of independence, he nonetheless is capable of taking action without worrying too much what others might think about him.
Feeling the unease of competition, these rabbits use their personal ingenuity to ease and nullify the situation by being more passive about competitive matters that are usually based on finance and position, and instead while focusing on the ideal of cooperation, and the principal of guaranteed self expression among people, they attend to reinforcing rightful communication among the group, even if this is viewed with suspicion. Therefore, support will be needed to carry through with this plan.
8
This Mutable Rabbit is happiest when he has the time to accomplish something unique, and he feels that he is to some degree deserving of any amount of time and resources that are needed in order to arrive enthusiastically at the destination that he sees ahead. Their non-conformist streak allows them to uncover details and information through he use of intuition that leads to an emotional resurgence of personality and being.
Here, the Rabbits rapid tread marks quickly distinguish the characteristics of this sign with the preoccupation of a journey that can be often times more mental than it is physical. At times this can manifest in a diverse mental nature that will indeed visits the vistas of the intellect for a panoramic view of the world at large. Or it can bargain for a more specialized experience of perspective that guarantees a wholeness and integration of the spirit, with not just the community, but the whole universe as well.
Thus the ingenuity and purpose of this Rabbit is to attempt at taking its inverted nature and transforming it into a comprehensive theme of awareness that is to be distributed through new forms of communication. Such dependence on ecstatic emotional states however, leaves this mental and emotional Mutable Rabbit at times falling ‘head over heels’ in love with members of the opposite sex that it doesn’t even know.
Often, an emphasis may also be placed on the thriving for the constant reinvention of a social scene that promises a diverse social interaction and fortification of knowledge; though ultimately it is their own enlightenment that is sought for the purpose of their on going mental journey, which delights the child within.
YACAPANTLI ACATL
The Reed Arrow That Comes Before
“The Cardinal Reed of Cultural Foundations”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Sheep and the zodialogical Cancer, The Cardinal Reed or, Yacapantli Acatl draws from the previous idealism of the Mutable Aztec Rabbit to create an ‘accepted or recognized cultural tradition’. This is done with passivity, much in the same way that reed beds passively root themselves to the watery shores edge. Here they serve the purpose of housing and protecting aquatic animals, which in turn attracts a variety of hungry passerby’s who come together under one roof to form a diverse rural culture, accumulated from a history of tribal languages and traditions made manifest in the struggle for survival.
The immediate instinct of these people is to accept diversity and treat it with diplomatic passivity, knowing that the community like the nature of water must always run into itself again and again. As the reed husk soon emerges from the waters, then surly an artistic tradition soon emerges from the peaceful interaction of community cooperation, which can also be an advertisement towards philanthropic endeavors as well.
The gathering of the aquatic Reed here in this case of “Yacapantli Acatl,” or Reed of Cultural Foundations, then takes the special form of the family and the values found there, which are then recycled and dispersed back out to the community. All aspects of the community were born at first, from a specific point within the human family unit, with the engagement of engendering specific values and education contributing to the moral productivity in all situations that demand community behavior and conscience.
9
The archetype of the Cultural Reed demonstrates the ability to maintain or establish composure in the face of adverse and uncomforting circumstance as the waters edge is usually a symbol of peace and tranquility and in the case of modern society such an archetype must figure out a way to co-exist amidst the commotion of the industrial environment.
Therefore, the Cultural Reed archetype often times manages to do this by going with the flow of the established order. With its own inherent desire for a peaceful life this Reed will be sure to pay attention, and follow the ridged rules and regulations, which will guarantee it and all others around them safety and stability. Some of them for this matter may even be considered complacent by others, a fact which may owe to an inherent ‘herding instinct’ brought about by so much socially fixed collusion to be found at the waters edge.
For this reason, these Reeds appear on the surface to be indeed pleasant people. There is often a very mild mannered, and soothing atmosphere around there presence and self-expression that regulates the amount of social toxicity that circulates throughout the community. However, in sharing the secure warmth of their world with you, they may decide to retreat into their hollow casing in order to preserve a personal secret or two about their existence, which they do not want you to know. It is here, in defense of their secret world, where they are likely to exhibit some amount of aggression for protecting ‘what is theirs’. Depending on what’s at stake here, a Cardinal Reed individual can become somewhat suspicious of the other party rather quickly.
However, once trust is reestablished and maintained the Cultural Reed will continue to catalyze the situation with his low keyed emotional responses that put so many at ease. Yet, despite the incorporated reputation of those in this Reed gathering as being able to say nothing out of synchronicity, this person can nonetheless be overtly critical in his perceptions of others and often drop his crucial opinions clearly, and openly, within the very tranquil environment that he himself has created!
10
Despite inner social animosities this Reed stalk seeks to become a ridged force, surfacing to become a ruler that emerges strait up from the collective waters of the community, as a moral guide post that takes the form of community counselors, and therapists who heel the emerging distortions brought about through an overload of diversity that is to be found about at the panoramic threshold of world relations. In order to subterfuge the emerging aggressive quality of environmental encroachment at the waters edge, a delicate feminine approach is elected for the communion taking place among the ambassadors of the states.
Suppression of the watery emotions might assist in the calming of the waters that reflect an illuminating picture of reality when untouched, so that the business of sharing and distribution among people may commence. Valuable to the circumstances, is a true and guiding scientific knowledge pertaining to the assets at hand, which should describe a balanced approach to the methods of social intervention among the foreigners from the distant sides of the room.
Thus, thru the art of diplomacy the stage is supposed to be set for an engaging dialog between contrasting strangers, who none the less remember their most valuable lessons of youth brought about through the initial conflicts of territory. An initial distrust will always be remembered, along with a suspicion for the ever present possibility of fractured loyalties, which reinforce the necessary pattern of distrust.
With these memories, this Cardinal Reed, seeds the reed beds with its own inherent natures, and then slowly but surly one by one, continues to build up the physical boundaries of protection necessary to guarantee its protection and tranquility within its self-sustaining environment. From the mass collective community, we once again arrive to a point of self-generation though a form of procreation that instills security with the allocation of out right numbers that then emerge as the populace of nations, which place their flags upon the stems of their rising identities.
NAPANTLA CHALCHIUHTOTOLIN
The War Turkey of the Middle
“The Fixed War Turkey of Competition”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Monkey and the zodialogical Leo, The Fixed War Turkey or, Napantla Chalchiuhtotolin draws from the previous Reed of Cultural Foundations by implementing an element of competition through the ongoing questioning of the accepted value systems in order to reinforce further individual diversification. In a sense, this shows a tendency towards disbelief, and a non-conformity, which in this case is a form of denunciation, done specifically for the purpose of relinquishing personal political power. The feeling here is that too much has been given, and some of these people are out for revenge.
In this manner, the people born within this year are tricky in their manners and conversation. They pretend to be open-ended and open minded; however this only an advertisement towards arguing the rightful premises of a respectful and engaging dialogue between two individuals. Their true intent is to return power to the political clans of war and domination. These clans may literally be their own personal political party, or religion, their educational institutions, or personal vocations; or simply the ideal of their nation, or alleged family circle.
The archetype of the Competition Turkey demonstrates the ability to creatively manipulate the immediate environment of people and things, with the granted tools of mind and body that lie at hand. For this matter, the goal of this archetype is to be a jack-of-all-trades in the world of industry, and a round about know-it-all in the world of knowledge. The keyword of this socially preoccupied Turkey is “versatility,” although this may be at the expense of any depth or general feeling, which in the long run will assure personal authenticity. The nature of the archetype as it is presented demonstrates the value of ‘taking action’, over any degree of sincerity or truth, which may leave room for the engagement of deception as an excuse to initiate personal motivations.
11
The pent up aggression that lies within many of these people born within these years causes them to assert themselves in important matters, which could result in hasty decisions on a cooperate level, and hurried, thoughtless decisions taking place within the family circle. The selfish disposition of the Competition Turkey can result in an unintergrated personality who really only understands the process of winning or losing. There are no in-betweens, which can result in a poor and stubborn attitude.
Aside from their somewhat dominating and emotionally suppressive characteristics, which they constantly bombard their opponents with, they nonetheless understand the in’s and out’s of proper bartering, and sales, and know when someone is trying to pull a fast one on them; for it is this testy warlike environment that they subsist on – as much as they detest it. For this reason, Napantla Chalchiuhtotolin, or the War Turkey of Competition is ideally the master of marketing and manipulating people, which is often accomplished through force. When outright force is not altogether productive they will then submit to deception; all the while in a combative mood that resembles the dance of a restless Turkey, competing and pecking around the collective food pile.
For that matter, personal resources are the principal focus here, and which are often seen as lacking to themselves, which then becomes the cause of a great deal of personal insecurity that is based on monetary acquisition, and other more formal forms of recognition that are garnered in society for the specific needs of hierarchal status and corporate position. Of course, the most confusing aspect of this sign is its association to the warm zodialogical fire sign of Leo here, but it need only be observed that this is in essence, a true case of the Lion eating the cubs. Again, too much has been given; too much has already been sacrificed to the collective ideal; its time to take back.
Now, there is an aggressive campaign to revitalize the productive creativity of the self, although in but a selfish manner, which calls forth deep within the need for personal recognition, and above all else…personal rewards. Indeed, these are very personal rewards, because if they are not given to them, then perhaps they will simply take them! This could be compared to the ancient pillage of community warriors, whose only hope for advancement in life was to plunder the community abroad. It was thru this on going violence and victimization that the warrior was promised ever so slightly to sit among the generals upon the commandment posts of combat within the war of the rising states that purged outward in the materialistic tribal societies.
On a more mundane level, between friends this may simply be a cleaver relationship that invites testy challenges, which are if not welcome, are at least engaging when considering the tricky business of life. One upmanship will no doubt color the eventual stages of the relationship, in for which case one should indeed know the intention of ones opponent, through his ongoing advertised religious beliefs, and personal convictions. It should be observed how these values specifically contribute or subtract from your own, and never forget this could only be leading up to a very minor, or indeed very major confrontation if the stakes are high.
The lesson to teach here, in any case is self control, for this is what is lacking. But for that matter, you must have yours by keeping your guard up, for their intent is to justify their feelings through their actions.
ZATAPANYAHUI CALLI
The Temple House That Goes Afterwards
“The Mutable House of Salvation”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Rooster and the zodialogical Virgo, the Mutable House of Salvation or, Zatapanyahui Calli, draws from the previous War Turkey of Competition by amending conflicting information through institutionalism, i.e. through orthodoxy. This orthodoxy may come in the form of either a religion, or thru conventional education. In this way, the Mutable House is affiliated with the ancient houses where people gathered to receive religious education, and to be cared for, (so that the ancient church as it was in one case used as a place of education), was also in many cases the hospital, as this is often the situation today in some tribal communities. Therefore this is the house of healing, both in a physical, as well as in a more personal and emotional sense.
As a gathering place for many, or as a community temple, there naturally was in the past, as well as there is to this day some degree of ritualistic maintenance to be implemented upon the enclosure in order to preserve the temples sanctity and basic longetivity. To this degree, the temple is also a source of work and therefore corresponds to the modern work environment in general, which is where most people feel they can find their personal salvation, while conscientiously working with, and among others of the community. This gives people a needed sense of identity, which is another overriding aspect of the House sign.
The people born within this year take special note of the prestige involved in owning their own home quarters, and the aesthetic development of its interior. However, as participants of this orthodox process of education that is supplied by the local community temples, comparatively known as the universities, these people are more prone to stand out as the examples of the process, by reinforcing the status quo, while casting doubt on anything that does not directly come from modern temples enclosure. In some cases, this could indeed be exposed by conformity to a religious and/or an educational doctrine.
12
However, given the structural concerns of the architectural temple house, a more scientific approach is desirable here, since this is a community building, and others could be physically hurt if it is not safely maintained on a consistent daily bases. Furthermore, in terms of our times, a scientific inquiry is far more authoritive than just a simple religious faith.
Indeed, in times past with the building of the Spanish missions, the priests were highly skilled and educated people for their times, whose special disciplines in the end, had merely been garnished with their religious faiths. A great deal of management skills were needed to provoke the indoctrination of the American Indian natives. Therefore, these early American Spanish priests could be called “Masters of the Temple,” indeed!
Therefore, in a matter of speaking, the Mutable House of Salvation is the symbol of the work of life to be done in order to attain the comforts and merits of accomplishment. Those born in the year of this House can often be very alert, and due to their perceptiveness, can also be critical and discriminating of others and their ideas, which this guarded House may refuse to see any value in because of a ridged ideology that focuses on material practicalities over all else. Often what can accompany their intellectual rejection is a follow up with condescending demeanor, which seems to indicate that this House thinks it is on the right grounding, and you simply are on the wrong one; that is, as far as they and the rest of their world are concerned.
This is to say that their rigidity is reinforced by an invisible presence of the status quo. They often keep a mental inventory of, ‘who would ever believe such a thing’ and this statement may be expressed in any given conversation with the Mutable House. The argument flares out from there, and the battle to up hold ideas that are not necessary original, but rather socially acceptable, conflagrates into a contest that suits the brilliant colors of their brightly painted intellectual walls of accomplishment; which may be nothing more than a testament to their materialistic disposition in life.
13
For that matter they are concerned with tradition, but not necessarily religious tradition, but rather one in which they are able to show and prove some degree of profitability for what they believe. This may include a conventional attachment to the concept of education for the security that it may provide. Simply having the education is not the goal however, as they are a practical sort who gears most of their mental intake towards the outward manifestation of pragmatic goals.
One of the forms that these outward goals may take is the task and accomplishment of their homes as a relaxing place of refinement and elegance, which they can show off to friends and colleagues from the workplace.
The modern commonplace astrological rendition of the Temple-House of Zatapanyahui Calli often breeds a native who is aware of, and therefore subject to the lack of elbow room found within the modern household. This forces them to revert inward emotionally from the group, if they feel their privacy is possibly to be threatened. They can become extremely uncommunicative, and critical of other peoples presence, but of course that does not necessarily force them outside of the learning experiences found there. They merely attempt to soften the impact by diverting their attention away from others, with the hope that the same will be implemented by the other party. This can be an awkward situation indeed. Moreover, when this sign is marked by the number nine within the 52 year count (as it was in 1969) it can indeed be considered an extremely cold place by many people’s standards, as the Aztec 9 marks the reinforced independence of individuality.
The understandable need for territorial control, and how that kind of authority flies in the face of humane group cooperation, is a clue to how the restricted form of personal expression is submitted from the boundaries of this particular Temple-House. But for that matter, in more liberal individuals, the temper may fly off the handle from time-to-time, as a natural outlet from ongoing social pressures which collect around this gathering point.
However, despite these reinforced habitual social pressures, there is no reason to be so fussy over matters concerning the modern scientific domination of facts, which merely becomes a way of getting around the responsibility of recognizing the inherent rightfulness of all living creatures as having an applicable form of intelligence, and a place in our world, simply because we as humans have mastered the practice of how to insulate ourselves through the ancient technology of the temple enclosure.
YACAPANTLI TOCHTLI
The Rabbit That Comes Before
“The Cardinal Rabbit of Diplomacy”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Dog and the zodialogical sign of Libra, the Cardinal Rabbit of Diplomacy or, Yacapantli Tochtli draws from the previous House of Salvation by integrating unorthodox views into a socially accepted whole that is eased into an embraceable idea of companionship by acknowledging the true situation of others as human, and not simply as participants in an orthodox setting of behavior and established belief systems.
In the ancient Aztec system of astrology, the Rabbit is esoterically affiliated with the concept of love, just as surly as it is exoterically in most all other societies as well. For this reason, it could be said that people are known to flock around this Rabbit to receive the needed reassurances of social survival and support. They leave themselves open to the needs of others, which allows them to respond in a balanced and unconditioned fashion that suits the party at hand, and not merely the collective.
But at the same time they are servants of the collective as well, meaning that they oscillate like a Rabbit, back and forth between the needs of the collective and the individual. This is why Yacapantli Tochtli is being referred to here as “The Rabbit of Diplomacy,” since it is their art to negotiate the opposites, and to finally strike a bargain for the better between the two. Ultimately, the bargain is being made with regards to the greater group, as this Rabbit understands the power of the collective community and seeks to maintain a company with the collective whole, while at the same time understanding that not all individuals will always fit in.
14
The archetype of the Cardinal Rabbit demonstrates the ability to assist in the role of companionship and unify the community spirit. The people born within the years of this Rabbit have been noted for their protective qualities, and as well as their outspoken candor, which rarely when ever expressed anticipates any opposition. This is perhaps reinforced by a deep-seated sense of righteousness that accompanies the Cardinal Rabbit people’s conscience, due to their preoccupation with groups of people and their general welfare. Therefore, when the Rabbit of Diplomacy speaks, he speaks for all; or at least he thinks that’s the way it should sound.
For that matter, it is often said that this Rabbit has an authoritive streak in him, one in which he feels that he knows what’s right for others simply because the Cardinal Rabbit both follows, and reinforces, some of the basic social structures that manifest within the various human communities found across the face of the earth. He can therefore be very helpful, as he understands and accepts the human as a creature with basic needs and requirements, which are given to help account towards the goal of survival; one of these essential needs is companionship, the Diplomatic Rabbits foremost offering.
This Rabbit is a friend to a great many people and so he is also busy at reinforcing social networks, were the general range of relating and sharing ideas are what is important. Although they may have their ear open to the abstractions of deeper thinkers, they generally stick to the game plan. The game is to bring as many people into the fold as possible, because as the journey of life may demand more than one friend, then indeed there should be as many friends as possible. For this task, the Cardinal Rabbit has a developed a basic form of charm that is fundamentally described as simply ‘likable’. It is a charm with which he is able to draw in many of his loyal followers with.
Yet for all of his affability, this Rabbit is also prone to some flashes of anger, and irrational responses that are the result of his not thinking things through to clarity. Here in these moments, his mind is often simply resisting the influential pull of the other person, or symbolically resisting the force of the chain that he might feel around his neck. For all of its cooperation, the Cardinal Rabbit needs to feel in control of the direction of the relationship. Wondering were he finally draws the line, it might not be surprising to find that he does it right at his home base where personal control is definitely needed, and this is perhaps where the loudest conversations can be heard as he pretends to have this section under complete supervision.
15
Despite his open social nature, which is available to almost anyone, he is nonetheless pessimistic about the future and the problems that human relationships bring fearing the trouble that could be lurking in any given corner. When and if trouble is sensed, the Cardinal Rabbit can became pugnacious and quarrelsome, sometimes creating short term arguments unnecessarily only to return to his usual placid and enduring spirit.
Also, The Rabbit of Diplomacy leaves a space in its heart for the plight of the single person, as an individual who rights need to be reinforced against the collective. It understands itself in this manner as well, but just as the full moon displays the image of a Rabbit while in opposition to the sun, so as well, this particular Rabbit chooses to see itself as an essential feature allied between the opposing forces of individuality and the collective community.
For that matter, this Rabbit remains keenly attuned to the fact that the collective community has most of the pull, therefore making this Rabbit only somewhat warrior like, since they need to constantly answer up to the opposing parties for which they are trying to unite. This is absolutely necessary, if the congregate elements of the social Rabbit animal are to endure and be reflected within the human tradition, with an understanding and cooperation among fellows that guarantees the peaceful communion that a simple and an even more complex communal socializing should become.
But as well, it could be said that aggression among his fellows is anticipated, and some will make sure that their feet can be used for more than just running. Indeed, the constant struggle found among community dealings might force them into burying uncontrolled emotions within themselves that may erupt at any time, or simply be expressed in the form of personal aggression and stubbornness. Anticipating the constant environmental threat, they worry allot about their own survival, and can be found digging privately within their own minds about the future in a way that would make it seem that the future is stalking them out.
The anxious and worried composure that is found within this powerful Rabbit archetype tends to let the uncertainty of the future get the best of their emotional focus. But in turn, they use this tension as a force to help mount their authoritive characteristics upon the exterior situation. For some this could amount to being in an ongoing scene of personal emergency, where the benefits of outcome are constantly being measured against the odds of survival. However, for them this is a constant reassurance of their ability to contain the situation by an undaunting vigilance for the prevailing circumstances. Despite their constant inner focus, they can keep their cool and set an example for all those around them.
The Cardinal nature of this Rabbit forces them onto leadership positions where they choose to bring people together, and attempt to reinforce the harmony of human relationships while at the same time reinforcing the rules of the road. This is because the usual flight of the rabbit thru the field is preferably in this case, a-hop-along the bunny trail with a comfortable companion that suits the needs of the present as well as with the future. To do this dance requires patience, and the art of diplomacy.
NAPANTLA ACATL
The Reed of the Middle
“The Fixed Reed of Abundance”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Boar and the zodialogical Scorpio, The Fixed Reed of Abundance or, Napantla Acatl draws from the previous Rabbit of Diplomacy by bringing together people into a sharing contribution, which engenders the delights of physical reality to be redistributed among the group openly, and for the taking in of a moment of emotional celebration and joy.
The knowledge of the power within the collective allows for the opportunity to merge with the partner in a sexual and financial whole of intimate procreation. Indulgence in the physical delights most commonly includes the celebration of eating in a shared environment where the joy of eating is lavishly and ceremoniously executed. The sweetness of this Reed is that of the sugar cane, which demonstrates here the Reeds most certain connection with sustenance.
Naturally, behind the façade of any celebration is an acknowledgment of the unpredictable features of socializing, which can further engender suspicion and which can also tend to arouse jealousy with regards to the benefits to be reaped in the shared environment of abundant pleasures. This aspect of suspicion can account for a certain degree of intensity and passion in personal relationships that demand perfect timing and immaculate performance; since in reality this social communion ends up becoming a ritual performance that includes specific acts at some point. When this is not achieved is when the Reed of Abundance is transformed into a poisoned tipped arrow, which is then to be shot in revenge for the wrong doings owing to personal disloyalties, and mounting disappointments in the wake of the shared moments at hand.
16
For that matter, the guide post provided by this particular Reed Stalk is one with keeping pace with the social game plan. There are responsibilities that are to be found among the joys of relationships, and the indulgent activities found there. However, looming in the background is the ever constant challenge of the human aspect of the relationship, and how it performs with respect to the rest of the community, and of course…the game of survival.
The Fixed Reed is a sensuous person and therefore has strong physical passions. These passions are often the motivation for sharing and getting involved with others, so that the exuberance of the physical senses can be expressed towards their ideological fullness. This can take place in the form of financial extravagances, especially in matters of eating and attending restaurants for the ‘pleasure of tasting food’ rather than simply eating. The experience of food tasting is more a kind of self expression for many of these people.
The commitment to their families is of the utmost importance to these people, whose determination with the outside world might resemble more of a kind of warfare in comparison with their personal interest to serve those who are closest to them. They are to remain confident with their personal intentions towards the common stock of social minglers, whom of which may be quite numerous if say perhaps, this sensual Reed of Abundance that we are talking about is a woman.
17
Because of their desire for ‘a good life’ they may indeed work hard, but in the case that rest is needed they are not beyond lying or creating a false predicament to justify their absence from their responsibilities; but of course this may only be a typical human characteristic that we all do. For that matter, they also feel that their hard work and ethics should ware-off onto others and that the world around them should be moving like clockwork for all of their efforts. If they do not get the intended result they can become very combative, and even violent in their personal demonstrations.
Despite their aggressive character, they nonetheless see to it that they demonstrate the human ideal of good will and make every effort to submit to the other persons needs when possible. After all, giving and receiving is what we are all here for, and the Fixed Reed likes to do both, and will go out of its way to make others happy. But inevitably, if the intention is not right, there must be the wisdom to compensate for any lack of direction in a given relationship, and speak openly and honestly about differences, and sticking out ones neck on these matters and telling the truth may be hard for this Reed.
The joint finances created through marriage negotiate a fresh seed bed for a new financial garden of creativity. Yet if money and the delights of spending are all that can be foreseen out of a relationship, then the garden may never seem to be green enough, and the fruits found there may wither, or even be picked before they are ripe.
In the wake of intimate relationships, traditionally the woman has kept the man motivated in the game plan of “Keeping up with Jones’.” And if in taking herself and the game too seriously, a woman of this year sign may enslave herself and the people around her to the task of financial productivity. In any case, to both sexes who are born within this year sign, their task of making money is to be taken very seriously, and handled very competitively; indeed as though the economy were a war of some sort. The precept of finances is no doubt a serious matter, but when it affects our perception of how we view others and judge others, then surly we are only slaves to the war game of survival.
On the other hand, as the sign is presented within Chinese astrology, this position would nonetheless be portrayed as having the opposite disposition, as being shy, soothing, nonjudgmental, and above all socially disposed with an open mind towards the other person’s life and perspective. Their peaceful socially willing nature sets a luxuriant and fertile psychic foundation that invites the expressive contribution of many others to grow peacefully within the garden of delights. Yet, once again, for the very nature and purpose of socializing, there does take place an implied financial responsibility; one for which could be viewed in some cases by many to be the most valuable aspect of any relationship.
18
Indeed, people bring along with them to the public table a set of skills that goes along with their human experiences. Those experiences, which prove to be most rewarding often, prove to have some degree of redeeming value within them, such as in the case of certain kinds of education that can breed certain abilities. These in turn become the bases for which to fulfill the function of the relationship towards the more practical cause of survival.
Therefore, this position of Napantla Acatl, outside of human characteristics, advertises the need to develop the financial skill base. Just as in the past, when considering the case of the ancient hunter who was sly and able in stalking his prey was also considered an asset to the rest of tribe. So too, any person in our modern times who has mastered his behaviors along with his technological skill base, is considered an asset to the group. For that matter, after the seeds of the reed bed have blossomed, and the stalks are firm and rise high over the waters, then perhaps this reed is to be finally harvested to become one dart in a shaft of arrows. In other words, this stalk was meant for stalking; implying that the purpose of any relationship is to be consummated in the acts of giving and taking, which remains as the controversial subject matter of using people to ones advantage.
ZATAPANYAHUI CHALCHIUHTOTOLIN
The War Turkey That Goes Afterwards
“The Mutable War Turkey of Tribal Warfare”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Rat and the zodialogical Sagittarius, The Mutable Turkey of Tribal Warfare or, Zatapanyahui Chalchiuhtotolin draws from the previous Reed of Abundance by creating a hierarchical method of consumption among groups of people; equivalent to a ‘philosophy of proper and fair distribution’ that might normally be associated with the zodialogical Sagittarius. This could be thought of as ‘mass marketing with a social purpose’, bringing us back once again to the embedded concept of organized systems of thought, and the ideals of group fairness that are supposed to follow from there.
However, in this case, it must be accepted instead that the definition of ‘organized systems of thought’ here, is any form of activity, which is held as consistent to human habit and behavior. This would be equivalent to the modern world of business practice as being a form of social religious functioning. In this process the competition that arises out of the ongoing struggle towards ideal fairness, and any attainable supremacy that may follow in its wake, contributes to the reinforcement of hierarchical structures, and clandestine relationships; and this does not usually come about without a great amount of conflict and warfare between all competing groups involved, thus the key phrase: “Turkey of Tribal Warfare.”
The individuals born within this year see themselves in a hierarchical struggle with others in a way that the personal war that is perceived by them is finally transformed into a creative process involving attitude and charm, which is specifically garnered for the purpose of getting the desired results out of the relationship. For this reason, they call forth with their Turkey song the method for group consolidation, and cooperation, under the banner of the clan motto, which of course they have devised. This method and motto, is the consolidation of a psychic family, and as the leaders of this initiated family, they give it support. This personal clan of theirs is the tribe for the war at large, which is a statement of their personal performance and abilities.
19
A sureness of purpose here may not be effective unless everyone else is on the same page, and the terms are agreed upon, as this year sign tends to lean towards group endeavors and communication for its own personal fulfillment; while remaining personally introverted within its own private, and often unfulfilled social fantasies of grandeur. For that matter, the individual born within the year of Zatapanyahui Chalchiuhtotolin will be required to truly respond to the social circle around them, which they have brought together, if indeed the relationship is to ever be the economically fulfilling item that they had been gambling on in the first place.
In the most extreme of cases, this kind of system may result in relationships being garnered as simply for the enslavement of subordinate minions. All the while, this may be hidden though a façade of charm that is either hard to detect or extremely obvious.
The social disposition of this clandestine creature reveals a materialistic inclination, which then becomes the challenge that the key maneuver is initiated towards. They believe a great deal in what they are aiming at, but in the end they will not be able to rely on the circle they have created. For that matter, when they are being less goal oriented about their relationships these individuals can express a gregarious character that evolves the pure joy, and love for people that can often make them the life of the party with their perpetual form of mental energy. They should not use this talent to prove themselves over others, however, for it will be simply registered as sarcasm.
The archetype of Zatapanyahui Chalchiuhtotolin demonstrates the ability to collect, save, and then finally utilize resources for personal projects that contribute to enhancing social unity among all peers. Due to the socializing desires which constitute this sign, the people born within this year often see themselves as pioneers in their field who have been deliberately selected to lead the way towards new forms of creative expression, which can become the trends for tomorrow.
Along with this ability to foresee the artistic trends of tomorrow’s world, this socially aggressive Turkey also believes it has the advantage in perception, which enables them to size people up from the situations taking place around them. In order to correctly utilize the social resources available to them from the prevailing situation, this artistically flamboyant Turkey attempts to anesthetize his opponents with a dose of personal charm, which can lead to a profitable circle of friends; whom this Turkey will nurture regularly both for the purpose of common companionship and well as to help in the effort in achieving its personal aims.
20
Despite this determined disposition, the Mutable Turkey nonetheless is known to be an affectionate comrade who is also gifted with a keen understanding and valuable intuition about the nature of people and the need for circles of friendships to be garnered. For this matter, on the domestic scene, this clannish Turkey can be a strong catalyzing force in the family, who reinforces personal ties through the sacrifice of their own resources. This is why those born in the year of the Mutable Turkey can be understood as the “King of the Clan.”
For all of this Turkey’s interest in culture and people however, there can emerge a tendency towards outright manipulation through the very force of charm that was initially the tool by which a given relationship may have been founded on. This is where a confusing case of deception may set in where some of these people may misuse and twist the meaning of words in order to convolute the conversation, and subjugate the situation into their favor. This is where a negative game of one upmanship may emerge ever so subtly, so as not to disrupt their misguided plan, and to continue to maneuver their circle of friends into psychological submission for the service their own materialistic motives.
In the Chinese tradition this is the sign of the initiation of the 12-year cycle, therefore this should be seen as the sign of personal initiative as well, as the concept exists in relation to people. The excitement that is generated by observing the financial success stories found abroad throughout the world creates ambition here, and yet the real need is to be involved with people. The thrill of the opposite sex therefore becomes a great source of ambition here to prove ones self and abilities, and for the hope and fantasy of a sexual union and any further creativity that may come about thru such intimacy. It is noted within the Chinese tradition that love is felt within this year, but good advice emphasizes to watch the enemy behind the curtain; for love always invites competition.
YACAPANTLI CALLI
The Temple House That Comes Before
“The Cardinal House of Administration”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Ox, and the zodialogical Capricorn, The Cardinal House of Administration or, Yacapantli Calli draws from the previous Turkey of Tribal Warfare by amassing collective social conflict into a redeemable organized social structure often referred to as law. The structure of this particular Temple House is literally the modern court house, as well as the ‘law statutes’ that fill the books. The modern symbol of law, which includes the “Greek Pillars,” that uphold the Temple House are a direct reference to both Aztec year signs of the Reed, and the House, and which of course are known to oppose each other, while reinforcing each other with their distinct forms.
The people who are born within this House year like to carry out their work in an intelligently structured, quite, and methodical manner, which suits their sense of privacy. This desire reflects the need for their personal ‘internal structure’ to be carried outward into the physical environment. However, often when this does not happen, their internal world simply becomes a mountain under pressure, wherein these individuals can end up leading emotionally unfulfilled life’s since the outer world of reality is not correlating to the inner need of intellectual supremacy.
As a way out of the despondency of everyday relationships, this person may instead, seek the dominance of business related relationships where structure can prevail over conflicting personal desires and perspectives between people. Their need to be right, and having the intellectual upper hand in all instances, impairs them from seeing the good in others, and as well, it blinds them of the true purpose of life’s variety while keeping them closed within the frameworks of their personally manufactured temple house. Despite this suffocating presence of many Cardinal House personalities, they nonetheless like to glean their own brand of charm upon a circle of associates whom he may consider to be on his level.
There in those circles, he expects his reputation to be supported in the same polished and unblemished manner, from which he promotes his authoritive and supposedly accomplished character. In other words he feels he deserves the respect of those he respects, and for that matter he can be considered an elitist. This doesn't mean there is ever a shortage of clever personal charm and humor that can bring ordinary people together under a protective social umbrella, which will promise many some degree of security and friendship, if sticking to the task of the Cardinal House’s authority is accomplished.
21
As a supplication to the prevailing social climate, Yacapantli Calli attempts to offer the overhead structure of their superior intellect as a protective enclosure for the group. Often this can be offered somewhat forcefully as though they were in reality only trying to dominate the situation socially, so that finally they might apply their ambition to raising the ceiling, and closing the door on any outside competition. Here within the enclosure of their controlling ambitions, so called modesty is really only a shadow of their underlying intention to surmount the local territory, and build on their authority.
As a traditionalist who upholds conventional value systems, they find no difficulty in pushing these values upon others as it is assumed that these values are indeed the true source of all virtue found within domestic etiquette. Unfortunately, for the most part, these are designed to strengthen the authority of the superiors within the household, and to reinforce their upper hand in any situation.
For that matter, this sign can be known to alienate the younger generation within any cycle of decades, since this temple top represents the achievement of old age and the privileges that come out from there. The subjects of the younger generation merely become the steps below their feet, which they intend to surmount their temple of righteousness with, all the while in a gesture of superiority to call forth their ultimate victory over all those around them as an immovable fact of observation.
22
The mounting negativities of their inherent pessimism may nonetheless be regarded as being born from their disappointment with the state of affairs abroad; this becomes a perfectionist streak, which they simply fail to see past the situation with. For that matter, this kind of rigidity has a serious nature about it that reinforces the nature of the traditional orientation of family, along with its typical high degree of firmness.
Further away from the living room of home life, a more casual and humorous approach to relationships, and friends is made available, which more or less may advertise an invitation to enter their house of personal entertainment, as a visitor and observer to the delights of their achievement that have come about through their discipline.
If perhaps one can reinforce their station with a complimentary or even greater social status, then perhaps ones presence should provide the necessary mirror on the wall with which they can articulate their challenges with. If not, ones presence may only end up becoming a symbol of condescending remarks, which tease at the elemental simplicity of acceptance and tolerance of all men.
NAPANTLA TOCHTLI
The Rabbit of the Middle
“The Fixed Rabbit of Democracy”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Tiger and the zodialogical Aquarius, The Rabbit of Democracy or, Napantla Tochtli draws from the previous House of Administration by distributing law and order to the community in the form of a freedom of personal expression, and equality among men as an anticipated individual right. This attribute of the Rabbit is a direct manifestation of its tendency towards philosophical debate, which eventually manifests as a structured system of social ethics. Clearly, this is a reaction and rebirth form out of the formal position of Yacapantli Calli, resulting in the awakening of a new form of independence and individuality.
For that matter, groups of people are important to this Rabbit since it is in a social environment in which these ‘structured ethics’ are best utilized, and are to be expressed within as a demonstration of virtue. Furthermore, it is here that the tendency towards showing off can best take an effect as this Fixed Rabbit demonstrates the ability to emerge, and act swiftly, in the face demanding situations. As the antithesis of the former House sign, this Rabbits reaction to the former consolidating influence is to expand, and integrate in all areas of perception and communication, which contribute to a more unique method of lifestyle. For this reason, people born in the Year of the Napantla Tochtli are said to be ‘hard to hold down’ when it comes to getting their way since they have a tremendous love of freedom, and a keen mental agility with which they courageously pursue their lives with.
The fierce independence of Fixed Rabbit people can be either a blessing or a curse, as they can be somewhat reckless in their approach to life, and also in regards to their opinions and judgments they have of others. For this reason, it may often simply be that this Rabbit needs to slowdown in its excited and speedy course, towards the future unfoldment of events. They have a select number of tasks at hand, and often others are seen as being in the way. In some cases however, it may be a good idea to get out of the way, as the Fixed Rabbit revels in dangerous forms of sports and entertainment, which can in many cases take the form of life risking feats of bravery.
23
The competitive and outspoken nature of the Fixed Rabbit causes him to be involved with something that makes a big difference in the world. This may be in the form of philanthropic causes which protect children, or animals, and all beings that cannot defend themselves. As an advocate for the downtrodden, and the principal supporter of rightful free speech, he is a revolutionary against the forces that suppress the reasonable growth and expression of the masses. Certainly, in the end it is his freedom that he supports the most.
To get along with the Rabbit of Democracy one must understand his sense of honor and equality, since their somewhat ferocious judgments of others may be the cause of a temporary rejection by them. For this matter, be prepared in advancing your cause in the rare moments of your arrival with them, as they only respect those who understand the true scarcity of life and justice.
For this reason, this particular Rabbit could also be officially called the “Rabbit of Unpredictability,” since this aspect is traditionally one of Aztec Rabbits principal astrological attributes, and thus being noted as an animal whose next step no one could predict, it goes well with this position. For that matter, the possibility of recognition may drive these people to daring feats of bravery that push the usual, and predictable habitat out onto the edge of uncertainty. Just as well, recklessness and hasty actions without forethought could color the character of this Rabbits attitude if it does not remember the rights of others before amending personal justice, or taking out an option on chance.
As this is the case, it should be pointed out that the southern position of the Aztec Rabbit is always an indicator of the nature of attitude and temperament, and it is here in this position of Napantla Tochtli that temperaments are known to get out of hand from time to time. However, these temperamental explosions may only be a positive indicator to show where negativity is taking out an unknown toll on the community, and where someone merely needs to take an ethical stand.
This is where we come to understand the symbolic reinforcement that the Aztec Rabbit is a messenger on both a vocal and physical level of communication that relates to passionate emotions. For that matter, he was called “drunk” in the Aztec cosmologies, pointing out his liberal approach to socializing and expressing oneself to ones fellow man; even if perhaps, the Rabbit is often only to be inebriated with the magical substance of alcohol at the times when he flips out.
24
The tools of the Rabbits mobility here, in Napantla Tochtli, contribute to a courageous personality and a wanderlust that can challenge the security features of any relationship. Their hunger for adventure can entice them towards dangerous occupations as stunt performers, revolutionaries, and military mercenaries. But despite this hunger and thirst for a true sense survival, they do not shy away from the responsibilities of their home life where family offspring may indeed be numerous; just as when they are out in the field, they remain as the chief initiators of most home activity.
In the wake of so much activity however, the Fixed Rabbit may find itself loosing its bearings in the battle for control with the youth in their presence, and can become overbearing towards children if they cannot retain the ideal model of playfulness that is usually so suitable for them. This Rabbits games are really those that are played in the adult world.
It is indeed their love of freedom that can make this hardy Rabbit impatient with those around them. Yet in sensing this trait within themselves, they attempt at establishing a social front that will keep them in tune and timing with their own peers, affirming a character about these people that is indeed very social minded. Watching them go to work in reinforcing this characteristic of theirs, might reveal something of a paradox within the situation, where in fighting for the collective rights of so many others it becomes obvious that it is their own sense of righteousness that is offended, and which they are fighting to retain…but for the benefit of all.
The deep humanitarian streak that is so often noted within the people of this year position, has surly helped in labeling Napantla Tochtli, as “The Rabbit of Democracy,” since it is the innate sensed cause of justice and rightful action that becomes the bases of such speedy and deliberate activity, which is quite often needed in such a dangerous world of competing forces. Napantla Tochtli answers up to these challenges of the natural world, by demanding that everyone who is anyone take control of their lives, by honing in on their survival abilities, while at the same time running to the safety of self fulfillment by finally passing by all of the dangers of our adversaries, who want to stop us in our tracks with our goal of equal and enduring survival.
ZATAPANYAHUI ACATL
The Reed That Goes Afterwards
“The Mutable Reed of Community”
As the corresponding year sign to the Chinese Cat and the zodialogical Pisces, The Mutable Reed of Community or, Zatapanyahui Acatl draws from the previous Rabbit of Democracy by integrating ethical value systems into the mass living structures of community interaction. This includes the smooth and supportive approach to human relationships, and condones the proper and patient use of intelligence and cooperation that directs the eventual desired prospect of positive outcome.
Like the Reed beds that gather around the shores of the ancient lakes, the communities of humans also make their homes in these fecundate vicinities where many animals call home as well. As such, these ancient territories had become the crossroads for many confrontations out of which grew the eventual wisdom of building and sharing resources among many divergent cultures; and still these resources are always a continual source of suspicion and warfare.
From the awareness of these experiences the people of this year sign build a camaraderie with the community in an effort to ease conflicting viewpoints and bring them around to a socially effective routine. For this approach, many are attracted to this individual, and can literally flock around him like a bundle of reeds. Unfortunately, reeds also have a camouflage of vegetation that covers them, and when these individuals see the crowds that surround them and the power they have over them, they often begin to stalk the community for more power and position. This is where the Reed becomes an arrow of war, and were subtle attributes of deception can occur within the shadows of over-bound social growth.
25
Despite the large crowds of people this Reed is capable of standing in the waters with, it nonetheless prefers to call its own piece of turf its home, and would often prefer that you do not try to plant to many of your personal interest there, as the Reed finds socializing more practical away from the nest eggs. For that matter, although sociable, a certain kind of sensitivity can dominate many of these people’s personalities, so much so that if you step just a little bit over their boundary they can become very suspicious and will no doubt find a way to put you back in your place.
Being extremely intuitive, they tend to adjudge the social situation by virtue of their emotions rather than just their logic, and so for that matter sometimes their judgments can be off - ever so slightly. They amend the situation by relinquishing control which becomes their arrow of defense, but instead of shooting they may simply disappear within the mists of the grove and ignore you. A certain kind of secrecy is obvious here, and the social unity implied by the numbers around them may say nothing about what is thought about you, or their contemporaries, for it is their ability to stand alone that is often more powerful than the environment of friends they attract.
Feeling within themselves, the expression of an individual principal of a universal singularity, they see no need for the usual boundaries in moral conduct. In a world all their own, they are capable of deeds that are born out of the mind of a par-excellent manipulator, and will stop at nothing to create the world of security and comfort that they seek and feel welcomed too. No one should know this place, and no one should enter this dark shadowy environment that is their home; not of course unless invited. This is where the trickiness of their secret existence outpours from, and contributing to their strong sense of self-preservation, it is indeed a hiding place.
Having their secret hiding place once again reinforces their gentle disposition with the outer social environment, and remaining peaceful they avoid all forms of violent physical contact. With their private foundation they can clearly reenter the waters of the community as the archetypical “counselor at the waters edge,” and for this matter they are capable for acting out the role of the wise priest of Quetzalcoatl, just as in the other 2 phases of the previous Reed years, which also as we have seen share gentle diplomatic attributes.
26
What is usually noticed most readily, is an easy going, mild-mannered behavior, which seems to contribute to an over all socially supportive situation. Often taking the line of least resistance in a conversation, these people are capable of attaining and sustaining a great deal of popularity among a large circle of friends, or other collogues. The manner in which they seek out the company of others is reassurance to the social inclinations of this sign, which often evaluates itself based on how many different people they speak with in a given day; although in certain cases it is the social company who is deliberately seeking them out for personal services and support.
Yet even among the company of people, this sign often cannot resist the temptation to retain a mind, and intention all its own. This is where the Mutable Reed archetype tends to kick in, symbolizing the subtle objectives that often may be at hand with these people. Beneath the surface of the conversation, this Reed often cannot help but exploring the complexities of the other persons patterns of thought, reassuring himself, the ability to come out on top of the conversation with you if the matter at hand is important enough to him.
For this matter, this person may not always volunteer his opinion on an immediate basis, waiting instead to let the conversation wander until he has garnered enough clout to bring the matter to a final conclusion. For that matter though, he is usually a good and objective conversationalist, who is able to avoid conflictual arguments that are based purely on personal opinions and engendered cultural perspectives. He is therefore, usually a man of his own intellectual making.
Despite some amount of good judgment that this Reed may possess, there nonetheless remains a great deal of personal sensitivity that must be accounted for. Because even though he may be a master at concealing his feelings, he is nonetheless often easily offended and can even read unintended meanings into the statements of others. While nursing the imagined offences encountered in a given situation, this Reed may be planning in the mean time a surprise attack, which could come about at any moment with a forcefulness that exceeds the preliminary image of the peacemaker and the social pillar in the community. This is especially true of the women who are born under the years of this Reed archetype.
